By Amalia Illgner When it comes to the perfect stag weekend, Prague is having its moment in the sun. For the better part of ten years the Czech capital has been the it girl of the former Eastern bloc. And just like it girls from Essex to Primrose Hill, Prague is being done like a dinner. Those who arent already going there are thinking of going there and everybody else already went in the 80s before, like, it became so popular. Now theres nothing wrong with abandoning Bournemouth and Skegness in favour of a bit of Iron curtain history and culture, in fact its where the smart money is. But listen up people, theres a whole map out there filled with quirky, exotic and down right crazy locations that are just champing at the bit to show you a good time. So lets start with the new kids on the Eastern Bloc; Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn and Moscow. Think of them as best friends youre yet to meet. Lovers youre yet to kiss, you get the drift. So here are some handy hints, interesting facts, useless trivia and some slap-your-granny-you-cant-be-serious exchange rates on places that you might want to consider upon organizing the mother of all stag weekends. Gentlemen, get your phrase books ready. VILNIUS S veiki atvyke Lietuvos! Welcome to Lithuania! Its the largest and most southerly of the three Baltic republics also home to an annual cucumber festival, pea beer and the worlds finest (and only) Soviet-era theme park. Here in Lithuania a beer bicycle is not just a fantasy but a legitimate form of transport and stewed beaver a perfectly reasonable alternative to toad in the hole. They ditched communism to score independence in 1991 and are now eating lunch in the EU with the cool kids. They walloped the 2001 Eurovision song contest with a princely 13th place and, as Paul McCartney would say, things just keep getting better all the time. The small and quirky republic of Lithuania, perched on the Baltic Sea and sandwiched between Poland, Belarus and Latvia, is simply one of the hottest travel destinations of the moment and making a stag weekend of Vilnius has never been so easy. So polish your Kankles, get in, get down and get ready to party Vilnius Style. Where its always 1991. Why in the name of sweet Monica Lewinsky* should I go to Vilnius for My Stag Weekend? What all those earnest Professor Boring travel guides wont tell you is that Vilnius is home to some of the best legal fun a man could ever want. And the best part is the hordes are yet to climb on the bandwagon so theres plenty of Lithuanian goodwill still in the barrel to go round. This is a good thing to keep in mind when planning the mother of all stag weekends. Now technically your wedding is supposed to be the best day of your life, but that doesnt mean that your stag weekend cant be the best weekend of your life. So, for the greatest weekend of your life Lithuanian style heres what you need to know: Its the Geographical Centre of Europe (Yes! Really!) Thanks to the nice people of the European Union extending their warm Belgian welcome to Lithuania, it is now officially part of Europe. And not content to simply be a part of the action, it also home to the European Geographical centre. I know. Its rather like paying twenty Euro for a chunk of cement said to have been part of the Berlin wall, little more than a tawdry marketing tool and barely worth the photo opportunity. But. Still. Youre drawn to the idea. Like one may be drawn to standing with your left arm in the Northern Hemisphere and the beer clenching right arm in the South, or going to Korea to moonwalk across the border of communism and capitalism. Or going to York. Period. In any case Lithuania has the honour of housing the centre of Europe. And like all fledgling capitalists worth their coca cola they have embraced the fact by building a commemorative park - the Europos Parkas - just in case one mistook the precise yet indistinguishable point for an alien crop circle or Stalins summer mud bath cabana. So theyve got the centre and nowhere else does. *A fine specimen of Lithuanian-descended womanhood Amalia Illgner is a copywriter for chillisauce.co.uk; a fully bonded tour operator specialising in memorable stag nights. Like the sound of that? Well there's a whole map of possibilities for a great stag weekend, for some excellent adventure filled ideas check out chillisauce where they will tailor a Stag Weekend in Vilnius just for you. Basic Profile Information That All Dating Sites Will Ask For (Part 1)
By Jack Strom With so many free dating sites that are out there, why is it important to choose one that is well known and requires a membership fee, in addition to many more prerequisites just to sign up? The answer is because finding a potential partner in life is a very serious endeavor and you would want to use only the highest in a respectable dating service. You can compare this to finding a good reliable car. You wouldn't go to a junk garage to find a dependable car, would you? Similarly, you wouldn't go to a free, unmoderated dating site for a potential match where just about anybody can post anything. Almost all reputable online dating sites are very well organized. All posts are supervised and they provide answers to important questions and give specific information about their members. Although they have a different format on how their member information is arranged, you can expect all quality services to include the following: Age: Although some dating sites do not ask this within their list of questionnaires, this is automatically located in their registration form. This information is figured out when you enter your date of birth as soon as you typed in your credit card information. Some sites do not show the actual age of their members, and instead places them in 10-year age bracket. Marital Status: All the choices are covered - from single, divorced, never married, etc. which leaves very little chance for someone to embellish. Weight: The options that are listed are sometimes ambiguous. For example, words such as fat and slim are changed by words such as beefy, thickset, or small & lean. When answering this question, or all questions for that matter, it is best to be honest and give them the facts, not what you wish you could be. After all, you can only embellish too much. You are going to show your real self eventually when you meet that potential person. Height: This means your height from head to toe, not counting heels. Children: Do you have kids? Do you want kids? Some sites give the age of the children and/or the person they are living with. Religion: This is very important for some people. However, some unusual answers include undetermined, pagan, or "does not practice a faith". Eye/Hair Color: Although most sites are actually asking for the real eye and hair color that you were born with, members usually give their current eye and hair color/colors that may be different due to fashion changes. This is a fun question to answer for some members and also a way to show their sense of humor. Online Registration Success: Fulfill Their Desire to Buy
By Bill Flagg So you've captured your audience, they are well informed on your event, they are looking forward to attending, they are interested in what you're doing, so what's the next step? Make sure all of your attendees are getting as much as they want from this event by offering extra materials on your registration page. Extras Can Make all the Difference Give your registrants the opportunity to buy more than just an event registration. Your registrants are already in the buying mood, so now is the time to offer them additional value. Some of your registrants will want pre-event items like white papers, or to order your speakers' books. Some will want post-event items like t-shirts, audio CDs, or autographed books from your speakers. Whatever the need, try to make an item available to fulfill it. If you are a charity, this is a great opportunity to ask for a donation. Online Functionality Makes it Easy With an online registration system, you can offer your registrants additional value (with very little additional effort) as they are going through the registration process. Since the ordering and processing infrastructure is already in place, additional set up is not required, outside of adding a checkbox and a description. I sincerely hope this article makes your conference and seminar registration even more successful! Bill Flagg is the President of RegOnline

How to Maintain Your Business and Your Romantic Relationship without Losing Either
By Donna Gunter I'll be the first to admit I'm the "Donna-come-lately" in this game of simultaneously managing a business and a romantic relationship. When I was married the first time around at age 26, I worked in higher education administration and was completely and totally devoted to my job -- not necessarily to the exclusion of my marriage -- but for many years my marriage and my relationship took a back seat to my job. Big mistake. That issue and a host of other reasons led to the dissolution of my marriage and the finalization of my divorce after almost 10 years of marriage in 1999. I went for two full years without dating, as I needed to grieve the relationship and heal myself and come to terms with all of my issues surrounding my marriage and divorce before deciding to put my toe again into the dating pool and foist all of these hangups on some unsuspecting guy. This aspect of my healing went pretty well, although I'll have to admit it took probably 3 years or so after my initial separation to fully work through all the anger I had about the relationship and the divorce. I began dating again and vowed that things would be different this time. I discovered, however, that dating had changed dramatically in the 13 years or so that I'd been absent from the dating scene, and that I still had alot to learn about being a good partner in a romantic relationship, as well as in figuring out what I wanted in a romantic partner. I saw the good, bad, and ugly sides of men, kissed alot of frogs, and learned a great deal about myself and what I really wanted during my journey. Synchronicity occurs when you're ready and open to receive what you truly want. For me, that occurred last fall when I met the man I had been looking for all of my life, Eric. For me, it was love almost at first sight, but I knew by our second date that I had never had this degree of compatibility with anyone I had ever dated before -- not even my ex-husband, and I had married him! Our relationship is still in its infancy, although we both feel like we've been together and known each other forever. Perhaps we have in another life, if you believe in reincarnation..... Here are some things I've learned through the school of hard knocks that's helping me maintain this relationship, as well as run a business, without losing either: 1. Put your partner and the relationship first. Running a business can be a 24/7 job, but the old adage about "no one ever says on their deathbed that they wished they'd spent more time at the office" is true. Eric and I make time for each other during the day, despite working different schedules (he works many night and weekend shifts, and I run my business during the weekday business hours). If he's at work, we manage to talk at least twice for short periods during his 12-hour shift, and if he's home during the day when I'm working at home, we try and eat one meal together. At a minimum we drop into each other's home offices for several quick smooches or hugs or quick "how are you doing" conversations. In the past he's expressed to me his concerns that our relationship is interfering with my business. I've told him that he's right -- it is -- and that because he's in my life, I've had to start thinking about my business differently and work in it differently than I did as a single person. I don't work the long hours that I used to work before he came into my life. It takes me longer to get things done, but it's a sacrifice that I'm willing to make. Businesses come and go, but finding a soulmate is VERY hard work. 2. Your partner needs to be your best friend. Eric is the one with whom I share everything. I may not always like what he says, but I respect his opinion. When I was married, I somehow got off track with my ex in terms of sharing my hopes and dreams and what I wanted in life, and shared those exclusively with my best female friend. My ex was left out of the loop, and I made many decisions about our relationship on my own, after talking about the issue with my best female friend, not my ex-husband. Having 3 people in a relationship (2 spouses and a best friend) is one too many. Sharing information with a best friend is fine, but don't do it to the exclusion of your romantic partner, if you want your relationship to survive. 3. Create a calendar consisting of free days, business development days, and profit-generating days. I have mapped out on my calendar my free days (weekends, days off, holidays, and vacation days), my business development days (when I write, speak, conduct marketing activities or pursue strategic alliances) and profit-generating days (when I'm working directly with clients). This has been an exercise in extreme discipline for me, as the temptation is always there to do some type of work on my free days. However, in the last year, I've made myself keep my free days free, as I need that time to get away from my business and have fun and recharge. Since Eric has come into my life, we've set aside some of that time for date nights or weekend vacations when he's doesn't have to work on a weekend. His impish side comes out on his days off during the week when he tries to lure me out of my office to go out and goof off with him. I've succumbed to his whims on occasion, but haven't quite gotten my business to the point of of having it run successfully without me. That's my next goal -- to have more flexibility in my business so that it's not so dependent on my presence in my office. 4. Share your business highs and lows with your partner. Every time I have a big business "win", Eric is the first to hear about it. When something doesn't go the way I'd hoped, I tell him first. My business is important to me, as is Eric's job to him, so we both make it a point to ask how the day has gone for the other, and sit and listen patiently to the good and bad portions of each other's day. As we're both problem-solvers, it's difficult for each of us to sometimes simply let the other one vent, as we're already thinking of solutions to whatever situation is at hand. Sometimes one of us has to say, "Do you just want to vent and have me listen?" when one of us shifts into the unwanted problem-solving mode. 5. Make time for each other. When you have opposing work schedules, as Eric and I have, and add mandatory overtime that Eric has to work frequently during the year, we may see little of each other over the course of a week. We've both gotten good at sensing that we're losing track of each other, and requesting a "date night" so we can talk and play and catch up. 6. Never go to bed angry. By far, this is the hardest lesson I've had to learn. When I was married, I would get angry at my ex and give him the silent treatment for days because I knew it drove him crazy. Usually by day 3 or so he would crack, and we'd make up. Now that I look back on this, I realize how immature and juvenile this way of fighting is, so the silent treatment is out as a way of fighting in my current relationship. Eric and I have had our share of spats and disagreements, and I'm almost always the first one to wave the white flag for a truce and an end to the argument, usually within the course of an hour or so. Life is just too short to continue to fight in stupid ways, and it's hard to regroup in a relationship if you let something fester overnight. 7. Forgive each other for being human. It took me a long time to acknowledge that I'm not perfect, and even longer to figure out that no romantic relationship is perfect, either. Give up the notion of perfection and accept each other as you are. One of my great faults in romantic relationships has always been the need to "fix" my partner. I'd see the potential in a guy and stay in a relationship long after it was dead, under the guise of, "Well, if you'd only do this and this and this, you'd be so great, because you have so much potential." Oprah said something along the lines of, "believe what they tell you the first time they tell it." We all bring our quirks, our baggage, and our eccentricities into relationships, and do and say things that drive our partners completely nuts. Remember that forgiveness is divine, and that it'll only be a matter of time before you need forgiveness. 8. Say "I love you" every day...and mean it. I feel so lucky and so fortunate to have finally met the man of my dreams. I always thought that often-quoted line, "You complete me," that Renee Zellweger's character says to Tom Cruise's character in the movie, Jerry Maguire, was so hokey. However, now that I've found someone with whom I'm so compatible, I've discovered a whole new meaning and nuance to that line. I tell Eric that I love him at least once each and every day, and then go on to tell him some trait or some action he's taken that makes me fall in love with him all over again. Being in love and running a business don't have to be mutually exclusive. Both endeavors are hard work, and if you forget that point, you can lose one or the other in a flash. Take time to nourish both your business and your romantic relationship, and discover how having both in your life will make your life all the richer. A Unique Interview on How to Repair Music Boxes and Other Mechanical Collectibles
By Monique Hawkins Ballerina Music Boxes, inlaid music boxes, musical jewelry boxes, cylinder music boxes, and antique music boxes are delicate and beautiful. As most music box and antique collectors know, in order to preserve them, sometimes repair and restoration is needed. For this special work, it is important to choose a company that is reputable and an expert in this area. With a little research, these companies usually can be found no matter what part of the world you are in. One such company and expert is Mr. Jim Weir. Jim does all kinds of antique musical box repairs and restoration. His work includes comb repairs, releading and tuning, dampering, cylinder repairing, and organ bridge work. Jim also offers all manner of musical box work on disc and cylinder music boxes. I recently had the privilege of interviewing Jim about his musical box repair and restoration business, which, by the way, is operated out of Scotland. Let's discover more about Jim; his hopes, and get an in depth look as to what it is like to operate a music box repair and restoration business. Jim started off with saying this about himself: "What can I tell you about myself? Well, I'm 56 and have been working on musical boxes for the best part of 30 years. My wife and I live in Scotland with our two daughters; one's at school and one's at University. Depending on workload my wife and both daughters help with pinning cylinders; I guess it's a family business really?" 1. Could you describe your online and offline business operations, your services and/or products in detail? "I've used the Internet to find workshop supplies, including the machine I use for grinding and finishing repined music box cylinders. Other than that, my business is primarily offline. Most of it comes to me from people who already know me, although I've recently started advertising in the MBSI Journal. I hardly ever buy and sell musical boxes; I have a good workshop but not a retail shop or display counter. I have checked out potential purchases for customers, telling them what level of repair work they are likely to get into before they buy a specific musical box, and where a customer is looking for a particular type of box I've sometimes been able to find one, but other than that my main business is repair work, everything from full restoration to part jobs, particularly comb and cylinder work. I've got a very good team of pinners (the people who put the new pins into the cylinders for me to finish) and after advertising in the MBSI Journal, I'm beginning to pick up new individual work from customers in the USA as well as my regular trade work." 2. What made you decide to start a business specializing in antique musical box repairs and restoration? What was your inspiration or motivation? "I trained as a clock repairer. One day a customer brought in a 15.1/2" Polyphon and asked me to `fix it'. That's where it started." 3. What have been your major challenges/obstacles over the years? How did you overcome them? " To reverse your question, I'm still trying to figure out how to overcome them. My worst problem, or `obstacle' if you like has been myself. Some of the work I've done has been fairly intense; taking it on as if it were some kind of personal challenge has not perhaps been the wisest thing to do. I'm largely self-taught, and I'm not a good teacher, or a particularly good pupil come to that." 4. What specific types of online or offline marketing tools are you using successfully? "I'm not sure how successful it will be; it's early days yet but I've just started to advertise in the MBSI Journal. I've picked up a couple of jobs that way. I don't advertise anywhere else, and I don't use any online marketing tools." 5. Have you always envisioned yourselves doing what you are doing now? Has it always been a passion? What did you "want to be when you grew up? "No I've not. When I was at school, I wanted to be a train driver. Musical box work has become a passion though; trying to get the best possible sound out of a musical box is part of what drives me." JIm will continue to give us an inside peek of the music box repair and restoration world in part 2 of this article series. I'd like to personally thank Jim for taking the time to share with us this valuable information about his business as well as letting us get a sneak peak into the world of music box repairs and restoration. How To Re-Approach A Woman Who Suddenly Goes Silent
By Teddy Shabba Question from A Reader: I need some advice on how to re-approach a woman who goes silent all of a sudden. I was dating this lady and she was very responsive then all of a sudden, she goes silent, doesn't reply to my texts, etc. What should I do? Answer: First off, how long has she been silent? If it has only been a couple of days then perhaps she has been busy or unavailable. Second, how many times have you tried contacting her? Depending on how long you were "dating" trying to contact her anywhere from one to three times in a week is okay. After a week contacting her is pretty pointless since either she is avoiding your call or is too busy for your call. Once a week has past if she still wants to talk to you she will contact you when she is ready to talk. When it comes to dating women, just because she was responsive in the past doesn't mean she will be responsive in the future. In order to re-approach a woman with any kind of success would require you to completely change yourself or lie. Unless she has no idea who you are, which is highly unlikely given that the two of you had been dating. Neither one of these options is going to work anytime soon. Your best option is to move on and change yourself into the man that you want to be. Then if by some chance you do meet up with her again you can try and approach her again. Only this time even if she doesn't respond it won't matter because you will already have become the kind of man that you wanted to be and know that it is her lost and not yours. Weeding and Eating in the Summertime
By Robin Blake A few weeks ago I was agonizing in the garden, pulling up weeds in the hot sun and wondering if it would be worth it. You see, very little was available to harvest yet and it seemed that all there was to be had was piles and piles of weeds. And then, as I pulled and grumbled to myself, I noticed something. The plant in my hand wasnt blooming yet, but it had a distinctive feathery flower head. Furthermore, there were most certainly veins of red running down its stem and the root was also distinctly red. Could I be uprooting amaranth? Well, if its growing here, its still a weed, and I certainly didnt want it to head out and spill its seeds all over the cucumber patch, what a disaster that would be! I decided to turn to the internet for more information and confirmed that this plant was, indeed amaranth. Furthermore, I didnt have to wait for its tasty seeds to enjoy it. The whole plant is perfectly edible. Just to make sure, I checked a couple of websites and some books I had around the house. Sure enough, amaranth and dinner. I quickly gathered all the amaranth I could find and whipped up a batch of beans and greens, with amaranth greens. It was delicious, and, Im told, incredibly nutritious. Weeding has suddenly become so much fun! So I started to wonder, what else could I be throwing away that is perfectly good eating? A few more minutes research and I had my answer; Lambs quarters and purslane. Lambs quarters is actually a very cute plant with silvery green, arrowhead shaped leaves decorated with serrations and some sort of powdery substance. The stem is squarish, but not quite as square as mint. These are delicious lightly steamed or used any way you would spinach or collard greens. Purslane has become my favorite wild green. It is a juicy succulent, refreshing on a hot day, even still warm from the sun, and it has a mild lemony flavor. It is great raw in salads. Ive never tried cooking it. It is extremely easy to recognize, and to munch on while sitting on the lawn. It is, as I mentioned, a succulent, and one of the few that grows well in this area without encouragement. It spreads along the ground on juicy stems that are often reddish. The leaves are emerald green, very pretty actually and grow opposite on the stem. The whole plant is smooth and hairless. Finding these tasty weeds in the garden really added to my enjoyment of it. Im going to make a habit of checking the identity of any weeds I find to see if they are useful in any way and make use of them! They are bonuses! But please, dont take my word for it. Depression
By David McEvoy Depression is a broad term commonly used to describe a set of symptoms that can range from mild, requiring little or no treatment, to symptoms severe enough to interfere with a person's life on a daily basis and sometimes to the extent that life in itself can become intolerable. According to the Office for National Statistics Psychiatric Morbidity Report 2001, a quarter of all adults living in the UK will experience some kind of mental health problem during the course of any one year. Depression is a mental health problem that can affect any one of us at any time of our lives. It is indiscriminate of age, gender, culture and background. The Patient UK website states that 2 out of 3 adults will experience an episode of depression at some point and the Mental Health Foundation quote that that 10% of children up to the age of 15 have a mental health disorder. So how do we know if we are suffering from depression? Milder symptoms of depression include short bouts of low moods, lethargy, sadness and feeling a bit fed up and out of sorts, and these will often disappear after a few days or so. However, clinical depression is more serious in that it isn't possible to just "snap out of it" and symptoms can persist for weeks, months and even years without proper help. Some symptoms of depression Feeling tired and lethargic for most of the time
Persistent low moods and sadness, a feeling of despondency
Sleep disturbances, either inability to sleep or sleeping too much
A pessimistic outlook on life
Feeling anxious and nervous
Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
Frightening and irrational thoughts
Loss of pleasure in activities and lack of interest in sex
Avoidance of social contact and social situations
Loss of appetite or an increased appetite and associated weight loss or weight gain
Emotional outbursts for no apparent reason
Irritability Each and every one of us can experience one or more of these symptoms at times without being depressed, however, if symptoms persist for more than a couple of weeks or they interrupt your ability to function on a daily basis then the chances are you might be suffering from depression. Who suffers from depression? Life changing events can sometimes precipitate a period of depression including having a baby, death of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, money worries and debt, problems at work, physical illness and disability. Some groups of people are more at risk of a depressive illness than others and these include the long term sick and unemployed, the homeless, single parents, those who are in care or institutions, those with a past history of depressive illnesses themselves or in their family, and those battling with alcohol or substance abuse problems. Chemical imbalances, genetics and physiological factors can play a role in some types of depressive disorders. Seasonal changes involving the long dark winter days and nights can bring on an episode of depression, and for others; there is no apparent or identifiable reason at all. According to research statistics, women are more likely than men to seek help for a mental health problem or depression however, men are more likely to commit suicide as a result of being depressed. Common types of depression Clinical Depression can be described as a depression that is severe enough to require the help and intervention of a health care professional. It is sometimes referred to as unipolar depression. Bi-polar or manic depression manifests itself in extreme mood swings alternating between episodes of intense euphoria and despair with relatively stable periods in between. The duration of the episodes and the gaps between them vary from person to person. During a high or manic period, the bipolar sufferer can feel euphoric, is excitable, needs little sleep and can be highly creative. The lows on the other hand can be devastatingly difficult with a loss of interest in everything, feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness and even suicidal tendencies. According to the Royal College of Psychiatrists leaflet on depression, 1 in 10 people suffer from Bipolar. Post Natal Depression can occur after giving birth. The symptoms are similar to those of common depression and can range from a very mild and normal period of "baby blues" lasting a few days to a severe type of depression that requires clinical intervention. Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD is a type of depression occurring during the winter months, and is thought to be linked to a lack of sunlight so in addition to the usual treatment for depression, light-therapy can be helpful. It is not known why some people suffer from depression and not others and although some people appear more prone to episodes of depression, there is no one cause of depression and many variations in the way a depressive disorder can presents itself. The severity of the symptoms and the impact that depression can have on an individual's life varies from person to person but with a proper diagnosis, the appropriate help can be made available. Depression is treatable. Depression is a serious condition that can strike anyone at anytime. Winter Craft Ideas For Kids
By Susanne Myers When the weather is cold and wet outside, and kids are cooped up inside, winter crafts are a great way to keep them entertained. With just a few simple crafting supplies you can keep them busy for hours and avoid cabin fever at the same time. Give it a try and come up with some winter craft ideas for your kids using some of the suggestions below. Paper Snowflakes Do you remember cutting fancy snowflakes out of a piece of paper when you where a kid? Your child will enjoy this simple craft just as much. Get out a few pieces of white paper, fold them and start cutting out snowflakes. When you have a nice collection of different designs, hang them on a window, or get out a big sheet of dark blue or black construction paper and glue them on for a fun snowflake collage. Make A Snow Landscape. Get a shoebox or any other size box, turn it on its side and put some cotton batting in the bottom as a layer of snow. Then let your kids craft little houses out of milk carton boxes adding some more cotton batting to the roofs for a layer of snow. Use small branches and twigs as trees, and cotton balls as snow covered bushes. Cut some an irregular circular shape out of light blue paper to represent a lake. Different size Styrofoam balls (or marshmallows), held together by a toothpick make for a great snowman. Inside Snow Angels Let the kids make snow angles inside, when theres not enough snow to do it outside. You and the kids can tear newspaper into small strips or pieces. Or just run the newspaper through the paper shredder. Pile it up on the kitchen floor. If you have a lot of packing peanuts, those will work as well. Let your kids lay down and make snow angels by moving their arms and legs. Dont forget to take a picture of the process and the finished snow angle. When youre done, sweep it all up and put it into your recycle bin. For more fun winter craft ideas including a snowman craft and ideas for snow painting visit http://www.kinderinfo.com

From 'Jennifer' To 'Jennafur' - The Search For A Unique Baby Name
By Neil Street How many times have you heard an expectant Mom or Dad say something like "we're trying to come up with a unique baby name you know, something a little different" Many expectant parents, when they're trying to choose a baby name, start at that very point. But where does "a little different" end, and disaster begin? With Abbygale? Cayllinn? Machenzie? Kal-El? Pilot Inspektor? Little Bigfoot? You get the picture. Taken to its extreme, which it often is, the search for a "unique baby name" is a slippery road that can end with a name that the teacher can't spell, friends can't pronounce, and no-one can understand. When baby gets bigger, he or she is not going to be pleased, being the only kid in the class named after a remote Siberian village, or a brand of shaving cream, or whatever Mom and Dad seized on in desperation some five or six years previously. What exactly do parents mean by "a unique baby name?" The dictionary defines "unique" as: "the only one, or the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics." In order to be truly unique, a name would have to be the only one of its kind, which leads you to the Moxie Crimefighters (Penn Jillette's daughter's name) and the Jennafurs' of the world. But what most people probably mean, when they say "unique," is that they're actually looking for a baby name that is individualistic, a bit different, somewhat unusual, and memorable. If you really want to make up a baby name, thereby ensuring its uniqueness, there are a number of simple strategies. The most popular method is to use alternative spelling, turning Kaylee' into Kayleigh' for example. But in your search for the truly unique, don't fall into the trap of turning Jennifer' into Jennafur,' or some such abomination. A recent news story noted that in 2006, according to statistics from a leading baby names website, there were at least 45 variations of the name Mackenzie, including such strange variants as Machenzie' and Mackynzi'. Another trick is to use unique punctuation, turning Maxwell' into the odd name Max-Well'. Then there is the anagram method, turning a name like James' into Smeja.' And finally there is the method that makes traditionalists see red -- the combination method, by which parents named Mary and Donald will name their boy or girl Mardon.' Get it? The point is, anyone can mangle any word in the dictionary into something else, and call it a name. And sure, it will be unique.' But will it be desirable? Not if you're named Gnataleigh. Is there another way to come up with a name that is unusual and individual? There is. Probably the surest method is to look through baby names lists for names that do have some heritage, some history, but have not been used in recent years, and try to find an unusual name that fits your personal tastes and desires. Baby name websites and baby name books are rich sources of unusual, often forgotten, yet real' names names that often have fascinating and beautiful origins and meanings. Here are just a few of the lists or categories you could look at: biblical names, floral names, Victorian names, place names, Royal names, Shakespearean names, mythology names, sports figures names, ethnic names, top names from the 1920s (or any decade you like), early film star names, and so forth. There are literally hundreds of categories of names, and each one can be a good starting place to find an unusual, meaningful name. The trend towards "made-up" names has really picked up steam in recent years. Judging by the 45 variations on Mackenzie alone, it seems to be getting to the logical conclusion, where you'll need to come up with some really strange variations to stay "unique." If you do go down this road, try to avoid being Mackenzie variant number 46. If you still end up stumped, you can always do what a Michigan couple did a couple of years ago they named their son Version 2.0.' There's no question it's a unique name. Neil Street is co-publisher of Baby Names Garden, a website dedicated to helping prospective parents choose a baby name. He writes frequently about unique baby names and related topics. So You Want To Cook Italian Food
By Andrew Krause When it comes to ethnic cuisines, there are none more popular than Italian food. From your local pizza joint (debatable as to whether that's truly Italian food) to the four-star places found in major cities, Italian food is one of the top choices when families are deciding where to go to eat out. The food of Italy is commonly thought to be decadent, cheese-laden stuff with a predominance of garlic and oregano, almost always involving pasta of some sort and usually served with a good bottle of wine. While none of this is untrue about Italian cuisine, it does give one a very limited view of what is one of world's most varied culinary areas. Italian food has two main influences: geography and history. The geographical influences largely determine the base components of the food that is served in various parts of the country. In the south, with the warmer climate and abundant access to the sea, tomatoes are abundant, and olive oil is the main fat used in cooking. In the north, where livestock are abundant, butter is the fat of choice and the cheeses are much more varied and exotic. The historical influences result from Italy having been a battleground many times throughout history, and one of the world's great imperial powers at one time. The Roman Empire brought in foods and influences from all of Europe and much of Asia and Africa, and after the fall of the empire many other cultures brought their food, and their soldiers, across the Alps. If you go looking for Italian cookbooks, try to find one that gives you a "tour of Italy" in its recipe offerings. Different regions of the country are famous for different dishes, and you should give yourself a chance to cook a little of each of them before deciding on a favorite. Most Italian chefs specialize in one region's cuisine, but the best, like Mario Batali, have a broad appreciation for all of the others. Your Italian food should be the same: drawn from all over! The area in which I live you will find a very wide variety of Italian food. One For The Guys: Rules Of Engagement
By Erin Love Are you thinking of proposing to that wonderful woman in your life? If so, you have an extremely important decision to make choosing the engagement ring! Beginning this endeavor makes many men cringe with fear. After all, the engagement ring will be worn forever in conjunction with the wedding ring. It will be the star of the show, so to speak, so it has to be perfect! Not to worry, your fears will soon be a thing of the past. Have you ever heard of the Four Cs? They are cut, color, clarity, and carat and they will become your friends during your search for the perfect ring. A stones cut refers to the number, placement, and craftsmanship of the facets that create the diamond. The more facets a diamond has the more brilliant it will become.
The color of a diamond ranges from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Diamonds come in a number of different colors, such as blue, red, orange, and yellow. The most common, as well as, most preferred is the colorless diamond.
The clarity of a diamond refers to how clear of imperfections it is when viewed with the naked eye or with a loupe (magnifying glass).
Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. One hundred points equals one carat. Another thing to consider when it comes to an engagement ring is the shape. Have you and your soon to be fiance discussed what shape of ring she might want? Or are you going to completely surprise her? If you are going to surprise her you need to be armed with knowledge. Shape indicates the actual geometry of a stone. Round is the most common shape stone. It has fifty-eight facets.
Emerald is the most elegant shape, although it has fewer facets.
Asscher is an Emerald shape, but with the added brilliance of more facets.
Radiant is also Emerald shaped, but differs from the Asscher because the extra facets are cut in to the underside of the stone.
Princess is the newest shape on the scene. It is square with intricate facets that add to its sparkle.
Cushion has an antiqued look. It is round in shape.
Pear is like a round stone, but has a point at the top of the stone.
Oval is also like the round stone, but is for someone who wants something a little different.
Marquise is basically an oval with pointed ends. It tends to look bigger than it actually is. After you choose a stone, it is time to search for the perfect setting for your stone. The setting is like the backdrop to your stone. It should enhance the stones appearance. The prong setting holds the stone in place with four or six claws.
A three-stone setting usually represents yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Most of the time the middle stone is larger than the stones on its sides.
A baguette setting usually includes two rectangular stones on either side of the larger stone.
In a bezel setting a round piece of metal fully surrounds the perimeter of the stone.
The half bezel setting is just that a bezel setting that does not completely surround the stone.
A tension set diamond gives the illusion that the stone is floating.
Channel set is a row of diamonds that are not separated by metal of any sort.
Channel End is a row of diamonds that are each separated by a thin vertical piece of metal.
Pave setting is where the diamonds are flush against metal. Now you are armed with all of the critical knowledge it takes to find and buy the perfect ring for that perfect woman. The Fertility Effects Of Femara
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Helene_Kvist] Helene Kvist Fertility problems plague nearly one in every four women, regardless of age, health issues, and race. To help address this increasing issue, scientists have struggled to find the root of the problem of infertility as well as medical ways to assist women in their desire to have children. The idea of Femara and fertility use is one of the most hotly debated ideas in medical circles. Femara and fertility treatments are constantly being revamped and reworked to increase a womans chances of becoming pregnant. There are two different instances in which fertility drugs can be useful: one, women who are not able to ovulate on their own can be medically stimulated to create and release an egg, and two, women that are already ovulating can be stimulated to have an increased chance of pregnancy by the release of multiple eggs during an ovulation cycle. However, this change in hormonal levels because of fertility treatments does not always have the desired effects. For one, some women can have multiple births as the result of taking medications like Gonal F and Follistim. And the increase in hormones can also be problematic for those women with a predisposition or a history of breast cancer. However, Femara and fertility treatments are not linked with increasing the hormonal levels, which makes the Femara a safer option for a larger group of women. Women with breast cancer find that Femara and fertility concerns are congruent. Because Femara, also known as letrozole, is an aromatase inhibitor, it decreases the bodys ability to produce the hormone estrogen, vital in the conception and pregnancy process. What Femara can do is work with traditional infertility treatments to regulate the amounts of estrogen that are in the body, allowing the woman to have an increased chance of pregnancy without the fear of too much estrogen in the body. Or it can be used by itself and naturally increase ones chances of becoming pregnant. Other advantages to Femara and fertility is the quick metabolism of the chemical in the body, which allows it to work on the short term, rather than remaining in the body and affecting the subsequent pregnancy as some superovulation infertility treatment methods can do. In its methodology, Femara can help fertility by allowing the body to produce more of its own estrogen in a natural manner by the stimulation of the pituitary gland, rather than introducing additional estrogen in the treatment itself. When the enzyme in Femara suppresses the production of estrogen, rather than the estrogen receptors, this allows the pituitary gland to be activated. There are some potential side effects to this reduction of estrogen, however, when using Femara and fertility treatments. Hot flashes, breast tenderness, and minor headaches have all been reported with the use of Femara. Some studies have also shown that there is a risk of birth defects in those that are taking Femara when they are already pregnant. Femara and fertility treatments utilizing aromatase are shown to be significantly more effective in women who have already failed with the use of traditional treatments: Clomid and Serophene, for example. In scientific studies, patients using Femara were able to ovulate nine out of twelve months and of these twelve patients, three conceived while on the Femara. Additional studies have shown that Femara and fertility are positively linked. When patients have used Femara, there was an increase in the thickening of the uterine wall, which allowed for firmer egg implantation once the egg was fertilized. This occurrence seems to allow for fewer miscarriages than the traditional fertility treatments. Treatment with Femara seems to be more effective in younger patients than in older women, however, the rates of success are high for those that have already failed with traditional treatments. Two Simple Ways To Avoid A DWI Or DUI Conviction
By Robert Davis Hello, Another loyal reader recently asked me an intriguing question. It's a question that I had to think about. Not because I did'nt know the answer, but because of possible ethical issues. I email this individual and asked her why she wanted to know this ( yes, a she). She replied, " I'm a student studing toxicology at a major university. My professor told the class that no one can fool a breath analyzer test". Well, I decided to answer the question, but with a disclaimer. Drinking while driving is serious. You could kill or severely injure a fellow citizen. So don't drink and drive. Matter of fact, don't violate the law at all! Your professor is partially correct, but their is a way to avoid the actual 'conviction in court'. The analyzer may be correct, but you could convince a judge that the test was wrong. First, in most states, the difference between a DWI and DUI or not the same in most states. In the former, it's involving alcohol, while in the latter, it's involving over the counter medications, prescriptions, or any thing that will impair your ability to operate a vehicle. Some states call both DUI. First, let's deal with your professor. The simple spice called garlic could trick a test. Not a liitle but a large amount. It certainly can reduce the total score on the analyzer. Say for instance that your state law caps a DWI at a score of 0.9. This means that if your score is 0.8 or below, you're not legally intoxicated. Garlic consumed a few minutes before a test can bring your score down a few points. If you're driving at 0.9 and ate garlic just before the test, you could clock in at 0.7, which means you tricked it. Now the conviction part. If you were stopped in your vehicle and asked to take a test, and you failed, you will be given a court date, as well as a night or more in jail. When you bond out and appear in court, you could have a defense if you can prove the test was wrong. How? If you were taking any legal presciption containing alcohol or said you had consume something like , well I can't say that. But it's something easily available over the counter. My point is that a judge has the power to rule based on intent. A DWI or DUI thrown out of court is not a conviction. I must say this again If you have read any of my articles I never suggest breaking the law. My focus is on those cops who violate the law. I see this article as a debatable subject for the lady who asked the question. She can now go to class and debate her professor (smile) I have learned that life has very few absolutes. Most things have an exception. Finally, I write these articles for information, awareness, and safety. Drive safe! Business Cards - Don't Be Shy, Your Business Depends On It!
By Frank Owen There are thousands of business cards on the market. Millions and billions even. What you need is a business card that creates value for your customer and sets you apart from the crowd. Your business card has to shout without being over the top or considered unprofessional. How do you do that? You have to provide the right imagery and the right word choices. Word choices are vital when creating a business card. A customer wants to look at a business card that tells them what they need and why they need it. They don't simply need to know you provide a service. They need to know why your service is over the top. They also need you to convince them to come see you. The Business Card Call To Action The simplest way to attract attention is to place a call to action on your business card. Tell your customers to present the card for a discount, or to call (insert your name) and they'll get X for free. Such offers not only encourage someone to pick up the phone but they let a customer know that their efforts will be rewarded. Your business card should also contain factual and helpful information. Never contain information or promises on a business card you can't fulfill. These will ultimately come back to haunt you and hurt you in the end. Customers treasure honestly and value above all else when engaging in business interactions. 7 Superfoods for Weight Loss
By Sylvia Riley The superfoods in this article not only have weight loss attributes but supreme health benefits that make them ideal members in any healthy weight loss regime. Chilli The active ingredient in chilli called capsaicin is a thermogenic agent which helps to increase metabolism and the burning of calories and fat. This is why capsaicin is found in many natural weight loss formulas. Capsaicin is also believed to be an appetite suppressant. Two studies led by the same Japanese researcher (Yoshioka et al., British Journal of Nutrition; 1998, 1999), revealed the ability of cayenne to increase the metabolism of dietary fats in women as well as demonstrate modest reductions in appetite. In addition to weight loss properties, capsaicin has been shown to relieve pain, sinusitis, psoriasis, migraines and arthritis, improve circulation and stomach conditions and inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Bee pollen Bee Pollen, around 40% protein with a staggering composition of nutrients, enzymes and phytochemicals, is a virtually complete food. As well as a plethora of health benefits, it is said to stimulate the metabolism, speeding up the burning of calories, and its high content of lecithin can help to flush fat from the body. Bee pollen also functions as an appetite suppressant, containing the amino acid phenylalanine that is known to effect the area of the brain that deals with feelings of hunger and fullness. Unlike the chemical manmade derivative of phenylalanin called phenylpropanolamine used in commercial weight-loss products, phenylalanin is not addictive and has no negative side effects. Bee pollen also satiates the appetite and eliminates cravings because it is so nutrient-dense. Coconut oil Dr. Weston A Price, the Darwin of nutrition writes, Replacing the fats you now eat with coconut oil may be the wisest decision you can make to lose excess body fatYou can lose unwanted body fat by eating more saturated fat (in the form of coconut oil) and less polyunsaturated fat (processed vegetable oils). One of the remarkable things about coconut oil is that it can help you lose weight. Yes, there is a dietary fat that can actually help you take off unwanted pounds. Coconut oil can quite literally be called a low-fat fat. Coconut oil is unique from animal saturated fats in that it is comprised of medium chain fatty acids which are absorbed directly and used immediately for energy. Raymond Peat MD, author of Coconut Oil and Its Virtues, concludes, The anti-obesity effect of coconut oil is clear in all of the animal studies, and in my friends who eat it regularly. Coconut oil has also been found to benefit a myriad of conditions from diabetes, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, thyroid imbalances, and viral, bacterial and fungal infections. Nettles Nettles contain serotonin, a mood enhancing neurotransmitter with a calming influence. Serotonin also plays a role in the feelings of satiation one experiences after eating, hence functions as an appetite suppressant. It is for this reason that serotonin supplements have been designed to tackle food cravings and aid slimming. Studies have shown a direct link between obesity (due to overeating) and decreased brain levels of serotonin. This is no doubt one reason why nettles have a traditional reputation for improving weight-loss. The late naturalist and wild-food forager Euel Gibbons claims, stinging nettle is very efficacious in removing unwanted pounds!. Nettles are incredible mineral dense and are cleansing and detoxifying for the body. They are also great for skin, hair and nails as they contain the beautifying mineral sulphur. Chocolate Cacao (aka pure chocolate), contains chemicals that increase levels of serotonin in the brain, and as such has appetite suppressing properties. Serotonin levels are raised in part due to the amino acid tryptophan in cacao as well as the action of monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors (MAO inhibitors). These decrease our bodys ability to break down serotonin so that more of this neurotransmitter remains in the brain remains, creating feelings of fullness for longer. Cacao is also exceptionally high in antioxidants, has potent aphrodisiac properties, healthy minerals and mood-boosting compounds such as PEA the love chemical. Pure, unrefined chocolate contains none of the detriments of commercial products such as sugar, hydrogenated fats, milk, additives, agro-chemicals and solvents. Green Tea A study published in the December 1999 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, led by Dr. Dullo at the University of Geneva, indicates that substances in green tea extract may actually promote weight loss. Men given a combination of both caffeine and green tea extract burned more fat calories than those given caffeine or placebo alone. The scientists believed that the catechin flavonoids in green tea may alter the body's use of norepinephrine, a chemical transmitter in the nervous system, to increase the rate of calorie burning. They concluded, Green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content per se. Green tea also lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of stroke, protects against cancer, prevents teeth cavities and has anti-inflammatory action. Omega 3 Fish Oil Omega-3 oils serve numerous bodily processes and are particularly good for the immune system and heart as well as arthritis, skin conditions, pre-menstrual tension, mental function, improving memory and reducing depressive symptoms. Omega 3 oils also play a role in burning fats within the body and as such can aid weight-management. This is due to its effects on insulin, reducing levels in the body. Insulin promotes the use of fat for storage and reduces the use of fat for fuel, hence lower insulin levels mean greater conversion of fat for energy rather than storage. The best Omega-3 oil sources are oily fish like sardines, salmon and mackerel. Plant sources include flaxseeds (the richest plant source), walnuts, pumpkin seeds, green leafy vegetables, evening primrose oil, wheat germ and spirulina. I would also recommend a primarily raw food diet (plant-based) and alkaline diet for healthy weight loss. MIRACLE SUPERFOODS:
